Archdiocese Settles Lawsuit
A victim of clergy sex abuse hasreached a $1.65 million dollar settlement with the Archdiocese ofChicago. The 15-year-old boy attended St. Agatha Parish where DanielMcCormick repeatedly abused him from 2001 to 2005. McCormick pleadedguilty this summer to charges of molesting the young man duringbasketball practice. Steven Dicker is the boy's attorney. He says themoney will aid in his client's healing process.
DICKER: We're not focused on hurting the Cardinal, we're focused on what's best for the victim that's my job as his attorney.
TheArchdiocese of Chicago confirms the settlement. In a statement issuedby the church, Cardinal Francis George expressed sympathy for thevictim and his family. McCormick is currently serving a five yearprison sentence on five counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.Whereas most clergy sex abuse cases involve older allegations, theMcCormick situation was different. Victims came forward while the abusewas ongoing.
